Regrets and Living

Last week, i watched Act of Valor.  I usually don't like violent movies but this one towards the ending made me shed some tears.
“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.  Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours.  Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.  Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.  Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place.  Show respect to all people and grovel to none.
When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living.  If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.
Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.  Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.”

Emotions

Rumi’s poem The Guest House is one of the most powerful poems ever written. It brings so much together.  He says,
“This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival;
a joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary
awareness comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”

Joy, depression, even meanness- all powerful teachers.  What are they teaching you?  Like all good teachers, they are pointing beyond themselves to a greater lesson.  Emotions have their own higher purpose.

Here are 3 steps to a higher emotional education:

1. Sign up for class by turning up to your life. It'ss where your heart schools you in emotions 101.  Turn up, meet the teachers and get ready for a full immersion.

2. Complete the assignment. Do the, sometimes, hard work of diving deep into your emotions.

3. Graduate.  In other words, the aim of good teachers is to do themselves out of a job.  You have what you need within you.

When you graduate with a masters in emotional intelligence, you have emotions but you aren’t had by them.  You feel things deeply, but know that they leave just as suddenly as they came.  As Rumi says, “Meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.”

Awareness is the head of the house and student adviser.  With awareness, know which emotions are in the house, and why they’re there, and never ever forget who you are when the guests leave.

iYES that SEE

whoa!  it is quite rare that i fall in love with a poem and this one really caught my soul. ;)

There is a
Cloud of Unknowing
Always beckoning us
Across our precarious
And dangerous deserts
of
Inevitable uncertainty.
There is a Way
Of seeing
And receiving
And enjoying
Invisible secrets
Endowed
from the
Impregnated
Womb
of
Time and Space and Wisdom.
Sometimes
We listen
Without understanding.
Sometimes
We look
And never comprehend.
Sometimes we
See illusions
And think
They are reality.
Sometimes we
See things
Without actually
Seeing them
As they are.
Indeed,
“Truth is in
the eye
of
the beholder.”
All our perceptions
Become gambles
when
We blindly laud
Our
Limping interpretations
As reality.
Our grand illusion
Is to believe
that
what we see
is
the whole truth.

So we remain
Blindly ensconced
In our rancid,
And rigid
Old wineskins.

And yet,
There are those
Rare ones
Who see
Through
The
Eyes of the
Heart,
For they see
What is invisible
To those
Who think
They can see.

Their perception
Transcends
Mere rational
And physical.
They transcend
The dualistic
And literal
Perceptions of those
Who think they see
But do not see.

Enlightenment,
Repentance,
Paradigm changes
And
The courage to
See what is
Mandates
The mentorship of
The
Spirit of the Depths
Within
One’s Soul.

When we meet
Such rare ones
We encounter
A contagious energy
That spills out
Like
The
Balm of Gilead.

Like Ezekiel of old,
The Inner Eye
Encounters a
Larger world
Of Reality,
No longer
Restricted and constricted
By
Mere
Rational thinking
Or literal seeing.
Today we celebrate
One such rare soul
Who has been
Gifted with
Eyes that see beyond
What we
Take for granted,
What we think
We understand.

Through his
Eyes of the heart
He has gleaned
And bestowed
Upon all of us
A lifetime of
Fruitfulness.

By his own choices
And through his
Refined suffering
He now models
For each of us
A depth of perception,
A
Quality of life,
A
Joy and presence
Without limitation.
How loved you are.

when i die

On the day of my Continuation and reunion with my Beloved, i want this to be read during my burial ritual.  Inspired from one of my favorite inspirations, Rumi.

When I die
when my coffin
is being taken out
you must never think
i am missing this world

don’t shed any tears
don’t lament or
feel sorry
i’m not falling
into a monster’s abyss

when you see
my corpse is being carried
don’t cry for my leaving
i’m not leaving
i’m arriving at eternal love

when you leave me
in the grave
don’t say goodbye
remember a grave is
only a curtain
for the paradise behind

you’ll only see me
descending into a grave
now watch me rise
how can there be an end
when the sun sets or
the moon goes down

it looks like the end
it seems like a sunset
but in reality it is a dawn
when the grave locks you up
that is when your soul is freed

have you ever seen
a seed fallen to earth
not rise with a new life
why should you doubt the rise
of a seed named human

have you ever seen
a bucket lowered into a well
coming back empty
why lament for a soul
when it can come back
like Joseph from the well

when for the last time
you close your mouth
your words and soul
will belong to the world of
no place no time.

Maasin it is

it is my last day here in Maasin City, Southern Leyte and as if to lengthen the day, i woke up quite early @ 4:15am.  had my power calamanci drink then stayed a while at my favorite part of the Edmund Rice Brothers convent, the back terrace.  i love watching the dawn breaks into the day and the silhouette of the hills is simply amazing. yes, i fell in love with Maasin City and i know i will be coming back ;))
i came across this beautiful piece from David Whyte and from the wonderful Maasin City i'm sharing it here:
Sweet Darkness
When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.
When your vision has gone
no part of the world can find you.
Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.
There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.
The dark will be your womb tonight.
The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.
You must learn one thing:
the world was made to be free in.
Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes darkness
and the sweet confinement
of your aloneness to learn
anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.

as above, so below

“Love not one thing and not the other, nor love one thing more than another, yet love everything, and all of life, with all your heart, and all your mind, and all your soul;

for in the loving of that which you call ‘bad,’ you transform it;
in the loving of that which you call ‘evil,’ you disarm it;
in the loving of that which you call ‘harmful,’ you render it safe;
in the loving of those who would do you harm, you cause yourself to be impervious to them.

“And in loving that which you call ‘good,’ you empower it;
in loving that which you find pleasurable, you enhance it;
in loving that which you call ‘Godly,’ you define yourself and lay claim to Who You Are.
Yet judge not, and neither condemn, for that which you judge will you become, and that which you condemn will condemn you.”

God would have said, “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Then he would have added, “…for thy neighbor is thyself.” There is no separation. Therefore to love your neighbor is for your right hand to love your left, your eyes to love your face.
You cannot love one thing without loving the other, nor can you despise one without casting aspersion upon the other, for all are of the same body, and none exists apart and separate from the other.
When you understand this, and when you help others understand it, you begin to create life “on earth, as it is in heaven.”
We are doing that right now, of course. We are creating life right now as we think it is in Heaven. That is why...
...the world is the way it is. That is why our planet is filled with intolerance, judgment, and condemnation.

“As above, so below.” we are always creating life on earth as it is in heaven. The way we imagine life to be in heaven is how we try to create it on earth. And if we construct an idea of heaven which includes punishment of the mistaken and the “wrong,” exclusion of the undeserving, a home for a God of special favor to only a certain few, a God of judgment and damnation, of anything but unconditional love, then you will experience an earth of the same qualities.
For it cannot be any way for you on your earth other than the way it is for you in your heaven. Thus: as above, so below.

For the highest of your thoughts will produce the lowest of your experiences.
And the higher your thoughts and aspirations, visions and intentions, the higher will be even your lowest experiences.

It has been written, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven, and all else shall be added unto you.” Yet know this: the Kingdom of Heaven is not sought and neither is it found by selective exclusion of everyone you call “ungodly.” Rather, it is created by calling everyone godly.
In other words, by unconditional love.

“As above, so below” means: As it is in your highest thoughts, so will it be in your lowest; as it is in your highest dream, so will it be in your lowest; as it is in your highest idea and your highest ideal and your highest vision, so will it be in your lowest.
The lowest part of you is risen (“He is risen”) when the highest part of you soars.

Let’s forget everything we think we know about ourselves, let’s forgive everything we think we’ve done that is “bad,” and let’s start over, this time recreating ourselves anew in the next grandest version of the greatest vision ever we held about Who We Are—as a species, as an individual, and as an Aspect of Divinity expressing That Which Is.

Remember today that you are not your Yesterdays.
Remember today that you are not your weaknesses, not your foibles, not your offenses, not your failures.
Remember today Who You Really Are, and claim that.

Never Broken

I am My Own Home, now.
Wherever I move,
The Light -
It comes with me.
I open all of the
doors and the windows
so that God
can come and go
easily.

Sometimes I don't know why
God takes such delight
in This House
I call Me.
This place where
Hearts
come,
to be Broken.

At the end of
The Long Day
I always ask,
"God? Why, Hearts to be Broken?”
And God always replies,
“Never Broken, dear Lover -
only Opened.”

para kay shinemoon

i specially remember you on this day.
i remember us.
i recall how the spark started until it blows off
and i am happy to relive the moments with you

i took on the other path without you
left you somewhere
and i wished you joy and love
still

i am grateful to have found and met you
on my way....home
i will always cherish how good you are
to my soul

how kind
how lovely
how giving
how generous
how loving

you were in deed an angel

a moon
that lit my way in its darkest

and whichever road you are now
i wish
you be the moon
to each soul you touch

my soul is glad
i am happy
once in my lifetime here on earth
i met and found you

you are special
you are love

you will always be
the moon that shines

and i will remember you
that way
only

thank you love
for e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g

we will still meet again
who knows
in the next bend of the road
i am there
but you won't give me a smile

and i will silently cry

thank you anyway

for the joy that you gave
for the love that you showered
for the care that mattered

i wish you...
love

invictus

one of the poems i really love...

Invictus
by William Ernest Henley; 1849-1903

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
