Defining a 'woman'

Sarah Kay, known for spoken word poetry, wrote a beautiful piece about women. Her poem, “The Type”, gave new insights on how women should see themselves.
She wrote in Huffington Post: “Media attention has been paid to what it means to 'be a woman,' but often the conversation focuses on what it means to be a woman in relation to others...I believe these relationships are important. I also think it is possible to define ourselves solely as individuals, without comparisons or relationships.”
True enough, women are often defined and valued based on their relationships. This explains why we use labels such as ‘good wife,’ ‘mistress,’ ‘other woman.’ For every stage in a woman's life, her identity is always associated with her relationships.
When a woman reaches her mid 20s, people wonder why she does not have a boyfriend. When a woman is at her 40s, people think she is missing a large chunk of her life if she is not married. When a woman is married, people expect her to have children.
Ask a beauty queen, a husband, and a wife on what the essence of being a woman is and most of them will surely answer: “It is childbearing or child-rearing.”
But how about a woman who cannot bear a child or a woman who remains single by choice or by act of nature?
Society’s definition
I have high regard for women who strive to be the best daughter, best girlfriend, best wife, and best mother. All these roles should be part of our aspiration in life. Our relationships shape our lives and build our character but there is something more than what a relationship offers. Yet, culture tells us that it should define us.
Society dictates how women should naturally maintain relationships. Hence, when a relationship fails, a woman needs to justify herself. When a married woman is caught having an affair with another man, she is immediately guilty of adultery.
But when a married man is caught having an affair with another woman, he is not yet guilty of any extramarital crime. Philippine law states that he is only guilty of concubinage if his affair is under scandalous circumstances.
I told my friend: “So what do we do then? Should we protest? Protest that we can also have extramarital affair and not have an automatic crime of adultery like men do, unless we do something scandalous?”
Defining the word ‘woman’
But how do you define a woman? Is it by length of time she spent on the bathroom? If she knows how to use an eyeliner, then maybe she can call herself a ‘real’ woman?
Two men told me that I should know how to apply makeup. It's an unexpected irony to think that girls are more open about grooming and style. My inner self tells me that I shouldn't groom myself because I am only pleasing the eyes of men. And when I aim to please the eyes of men, I allow my relationship with others to define me.
I allow culture to define me. I allow society to define me. That for me is a form of oppression.
We all have a shared picture of an ideal woman while we don't have a concrete picture of what an ideal man should be. Yes, he should be a provider but we can disagree that he does not have to know how to drive, how to fix electric wires, how to repair a faucet, and how to play basketball. He can be tough yet he can be soft spoken.
Not a ‘woman’
I'm afraid I am mistakenly placed in a woman's body. Apparently, I don't cook and I'm not domesticated. I am not caring and I don't think I'm sweet. I honestly feel I am less of a woman. But I'm hoping someday I will raise my own family and epitomize a conventional woman.
At the same time, it is within my understanding that life has many possibilities. I'm afraid to disappoint but I'm more afraid of losing myself in the course of finding and keeping people who can make me happy.
As written by Sarah Kay: “Let the statues crumble. You have always been the place. You are a woman who can build it yourself. You were born to build.”
A woman can navigate her life with her own ambitions and talents. She is not a set of hormones and norms. She has individual traits. She is capable of finding her own happiness and building her success. She has many stories and many thoughts which should be magnified and adored.
There’s more to a woman’s life than finding the man of her dreams, bearing a child, and being the best lover or homemaker. Let us set aside prejudice for women who failed in fulfilling their traditional roles and look at the other parts of her life.
Relationships are pieces of who we are but they do not speak of our entire value. - Rappler.com

Negros Farmers Market

I have heard and known of the Negros Farmers Market every Saturday months back but i can't seem to figure out their exact location so i kept on foregoing it to another Saturday. i am an advocate for anything organic since i started to become aware of my destructive lifestyle and even though it costs a bit more i believe that it will save me more from getting hospitalized in the long run by living out control damage as early.

Although it was drizzling last Saturday and so hard to tear away myself from the book i was reading (The Girl who played with Fire), i decided to move my ass and have brunch there.  Even took a taxi to show us the right way but the driver didn't have a clue.  We were driving so slow not to miss the sign until finally we saw this:

Yey! we didn't get lost hahahaha.  Later did i know we entered through another gate thus missing this main entrance:
and so we didn't pay the P100 entrance (which is by the way consumable) but ended up spending much of that anyway.

Got so excited to go around.  Ang lawak pala nya at divided into different zones.

Nung mapagod na sa pag-ikot siempre pagkain na ang hanap.  The only stall that got my attention for something different is the Japanese corner.  Maybe because i saw the chef is an authentic Japanese. ;))) Almost bought and tasted everything as of di na babalik. hahahaaha
claiming my ramen

Of all that i ate, i like best the korokke (mashed potato with ground pork and seasonings then fried).  Then i ate the sushi which i topped with wasabi and here how i felt while munching it:
picking the sushi
putting it in
feeling the effect of wasabi

cursing the wasabi
I am such a fan of spicier than spicy but this moment, feeling ko nag burst lahat ng brain cells sa utak ko pagregister ng wasabi.  watdapak! talaga na feeling.  i had to buy one more sushi and enjoy the taste.
Ang isang bagay na di ko nagustuhan, paper plates, plastic spoon and fork, plastic cups, etc.  It was just so ironic that i read so many signs around the area to bring your own plastic and bags when you come and that go for organic, be green and all and yet use the same.  bad trip di ba?!

ramen
Paborito ko ang noodles.  Mabubuhay ako kahit ito lang pagkain the whole of my life kaya sa lahat ng pagkain na nakita ko hindi kataka-taka na ramen ang inorder ko.  I told the chef make it super spicy.  When i got it, it was so disappointing.  Nothing extraordinary.  No kick whatsoever and the serving was pitiful.  Sya pa naman pinakamahal na binili ko @ P60.  All the rest ranging from P10-25 kaya matitikman mo talaga lahat ng produkto nila.
how Okonomiyaki is cooked
Okonomiyaki
Busog na ako pero naaliw pa rin akong bumili at i-try ang okomoniyaki na ito but i didn't like it much too.

going around ito ang mga nagustuhan ko:

wheat bread

bonsai for display only

farm fertilizer

they make a juice out of this fruits but i forgot the name ;( juice was too sweet though i didn't like it

landmarks to watch out for near the area
I believe i'll be a regular guest here. ;)  So much more to discover next time and marami ding free taste. hahahaahha aliw much ;)

The Lord's Prayer (new version)

Someone wrote to Neale and i'm inspired while reading it.  You might find it nice too so sharing it here ;)

My God, I am in Heaven. Hallowed is my name.
My Kingdom has come, my Will is done
on earth as it is in Heaven.
I am given each day my daily food.
I replace Forgiveness with Understanding
for my Trespasses, as I replace Forgiveness
with Understanding for those who
Trespass against me.
I do lead myself into temptation
in order to deliver myself from the Illusions
we have created.
Mine is the Kingdom and the Power
and the Glory forever.
Amen

Secret to a Happy Relationship

is there any secret to a happy relationship?  if there is, what could it be?  hmmm let me share this thought from my inspiration, Neale ;)  happy loving! ♥

I am sharing this with you now because I am often asked, “What is the secret of happy relationships?” I have had many unhappy ones, and I openly confess that I contributed greatly to creating them as unhappy ones.  I wish I knew earlier in my life what I know now.  Especially, the Two Questions to Ask Yourself in Every Relationship.

Are you ready? Here are the questions:

Where am I going?

Who’s going with me?

Now...and most important...when you make this deep self-inquiry, do not reverse the order of the questions.

If you do, you could wind up asking yourself in times to come, “How is the world did I get here? What happened to my dream?”

So it is important to select a person who can share your dream.  Or, at least, support you in living it.  And not begrudgingly, either, but enthusiastically, joyfully, and wholeheartedly, wherever your dream takes you.

Of course, another person cannot find out what your dream is unless you are at least two of the three—vulnerable and close—somewhere along the way, and hopefully from the outset, of your relationship.

When two people support each other in each having their dream, and in being vulnerable, close, and naked while doing it, then a Fairy Tale is written.

It becomes “Once Upon A Time” time.

And this is the Holy Experience.

A few days after we were married, my wife, the American poet Em Claire, wrote about this kind of partnership.  It is what she saw for us.  It is what she hoped for us.  It is what she chose to create for us.

We say that we will have a Good Life.

This is a guarantee
if we are kind to one another.

If we are patient.

If, when I speak, you listen
and if when you speak, I hear you.

This is assured,
if we continue to look for one another.

If we want to find.

If, when I am here, I am seen,
and if, when you are here, I see you.

We say that this will be a Good Life.

This is a guarantee
if We are Naked with one another.

If We are clotheless.

If, when I am vulnerable,
you shelter,
and if, when you are defenseless,
I protect.

Homosexuality and churvahs

On the recent issue of Charice Pempengco's coming out and a few of my friends asking me if attraction to her kind is normal or weird or whatever....i bumped into this article.  And let me share it here.  You decide who then are you in relation to this?  And who do you choose to be next?

In Friendship with God I asked a very direct question --- and received a very direct answer. I would like to share with you that exchange...

Can’t You say something about gays? I have been asked over and over again, at lectures and appearances and retreats all over the world: won’t You say something to end once and for all the violence and cruelty and discrimination against gays? So much of it is done in Your name. So much of it is said to be justified by Your teaching, and Your law.

I have said before, and I will say again:
There is no form and there is no manner in which the expression of love which is pure and true is inappropriate.
I cannot be more unequivocal than that.

This passage from the Conversations with God cosmology always rings in my mind whenever the subject of gays and their struggle for acceptance in our society comes up --- and especially when it makes the news. And it has done so again now.

The Rev. Tim Reed, pastor of First Baptist Church of Gravel Ridge in Jacksonville, Arkansas was quoted in a news story the other day as saying that his church has no choice but to terminate its charter with Boy Scout Troop 542 because the Boy Scouts of America has lifted its ban on openly gay youths. Reed told one of the major television news networks that “it’s not a hate thing.” He said it is a “moral stance we must take as a Southern Baptist Church.”

The Christian minister was quoted by the network as saying: “God’s word explicitly says homosexuality is a choice, a sin.”

Now I don’t mind when people use the Bible as their Source and Authority on matters of spiritual consequence, but I do have a problem with people who use the Bible “buffet style,” choosing only those verses that suit their purpose or personal opinion, then ignoring anything and everything that does not—or that they think might make them, as staunch believers in the Bible, “look bad.”

Rev. Reed is not the first Christian who has used “God’s Word” as moral authority for rejecting gays. I have heard other Christians do so, most often pointing to the Bible’s book of Leviticus at Chapter 18, Verse 22. As found in the King James Version that verse says: “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” Many Bible Believers also cite Leviticus 20:13, which offers this: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”

Using the Bible in this way may seem to provide righteous authority to some Southern Baptist churches, most of which are predicted to end their charters with Scouting in the weeks ahead. That could amount to nearly 4,000 Boy Scout troops soon without a sponsor. Richard Land, head of the Southern Baptists’ Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, was quoted in the news story mentioned above as saying that “Southern Baptists are going to be leaving the Boy Scouts en masse.”

Southern Baptists have, of course, the right to believe exactly as they believe. And, having said that...is it now Fair Question time? I should like to ask: Which verses of the Bible should be operative in our lives if we are to live up to God’s moral injunctions, as the Southern Baptists feel that they are doing in response to the Boy Scouts’ decision to admit gay youths?

Do you suppose it might be the verse in the Book of Deuteronomy where it says that if a man marries a woman and finds that she is not a virgin, and if her family cannot prove that she was a virgin before her marriage, “she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death”? Or perhaps it would be the verse that says that if found to be in an adulterous relationship, both the man and the woman are to be taken to the city gates and also stoned to death. (Before deciding, please keep in mind that if this were to be applied, some churches would have to stone to death their own ministers.)

Or perhaps it’s the verse that says that only certain people are welcome in God’s house of worship. If you happen to be a child born out of wedlock, or the great-great-great-grandchild of a person born out of wedlock, God says you may not set foot inside a church. The Bible makes this very clear. It says that no illegitimate child, “nor any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the Lord, even down to the tenth generation.”

And, did you know this? If a certain part of a man’s body happens to be injured in an accident or as a result of war, he may likewise not join with other worshippers of God in a House of the Lord. The Bible says: “If a man's testicles are crushed or his penis is cut off, he may not be included in the assembly of the Lord.”

Yes, these are words right out of the Bible. Turn to Deuteronomy 23:1-2, New Living Translation. “Oh,” you might say, “one of those modern Bibles.” Yes. The King James Version has it this way: “He that is wounded in the stones, or hath his privy member cut off, shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord,” but it means the same thing.

And the Bible has some startling news for women who take some of those self-defense classes that are offered these days. They can find themselves in a lot of trouble because of some of what they might learn in those classes. The Bible says: “If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.”

God’s Word also provides us clear guidance on what to do about children who don’t obey their parents. These are probably not thoughts that many mothers would have—maybe even not Southern Baptist mothers, but we have no choice but to obey. As Rev. Reed would say, "God's word explicitly tells us" how we are to respond. And what does God’s Word instruct us to do with rebellious children?

Kill them.

Now you might not believe that, but it’s right there, plain as day, and you can’t deny God’s Word: “If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you.”

I guess that would do it, all right…

So with respect, I am not totally convinced that humanity’s infallible answers will be found in the Bible. I can’t agree with the above verses. Any of them. Some Christians may not agree with all of the above verses, either. But if we are going to be Buffet Bible Believers, rather than a Literal Word of God Believer, then it would be wonderful to know which verses of the Bible we are advised to ignore, and which we should apply to the letter.

All of this brings up the question: Are holy books literal truth? Are we to take the Bible, or the Qu'ran, or the Upanishads, or the Book of Mormon, or any other holy scripture as God’s Word Inerrant? If so, which holy book is the one without error? Or is it possible that Conversations with God has it right when it says that the Bible and all other holy books written by humans might best be valued and embraced for its wonderful wisdom in many places, but never accepted in whole, with every word considered to be literally true, given that they were written by fallible humans...?

Hugs and love,
Neale

How to Change the World

I'd like to out in here this great writing from my mentor, Neale, to re-mind me again and again especially of course when i tend to forget.  Ito ang mga bagay na dapat gawin at simulan sa sarili para magkaroon ng 'world peace' ;)  sabi nga, if you want to end wars, start from your mind.  Have a great Thursday all! ☼

Here, in 1,000 words, is all that the human race needs to know in order to live the life for which it has yearned and which, despite trying for thousands of years, it has yet to produce. Carry these messages to your world:

 (1) We are all One. All things are One Thing. There is only One Thing, and all things are part of the One Thing There Is. This means that you are Divine. You are not your body, you are not your mind, and you are not your soul. You are the unique combination of all three, which comprises the Totality Of You. You are an individuation of Divinity; an expression of God on Earth.
(2) There’s enough. It is not necessary to compete for, much less fight over, your resources. All you have to do is share.
(3) There’s nothing you have to do. There is much you will do, but nothing you are required to do. God wants nothing, needs nothing, demands nothing, commands nothing.
(4) God talks to everyone, all the time. The question is not: To whom does God talk? The question is: Who listens?
(5) There are Three Basic Principles of Life: Functionality, Adaptability, and Sustainability.
(6) There is no such thing as Right and Wrong, there is only What Works and What Does Not Work, given what it is you are trying to do.
(7) In the spiritual sense, there are no victims and no villains in the world, although in the human sense it appears that there surely are. Yet because you are Divine, nothing can happen against your will.
(8) No one does anything inappropriate, given their model of the world.
(9) There is no such place as hell, and eternal damnation does not exist.
(10) Death does not exist. What you call “death” is merely a process of Re-Identification.
(11) There is no such thing as Space and Time, there is only Here and Now.
(12) Love is all there is.
(13) You are the creator of your own reality, using the Three Tools of Creation: Thought, Word, and Action.
(14) Your life has nothing to do with you. It is about everyone whose life you touch, and how you touch it.
(15) The purpose of your life is to recreate yourself anew in the next grandest version of the greatest vision ever you held about Who You Are.
(16) The moment you declare anything, everything unlike it will come into the space. This is The Law of Opposites, producing a Contextual Field within which that which you wish to express may be experienced.
(17) There is no such thing as Absolute Truth. All truth is subjective. Within this framework there are five levels of truth telling: Tell your truth to yourself about yourself; Tell your truth to yourself about another; Tell your truth about yourself to another; Tell your truth about another to another; Tell your truth to everyone about everything.
(18) The human race lives within a precise set of illusions. The Ten Illusions of Humans are: Need Exists, Failure Exists, Disunity Exists, Insufficiency Exists, Requirement Exists, Judgment Exists, Condemnation Exists, Conditionality Exists, Superiority Exists, Ignorance Exists. These illusions are meant to serve humanity, but it must learn how to use them.
(19) The Three Core Concepts of Holistic Living are Honesty, Awareness, and Responsibility. Live according to these precepts and self-anger will disappear from your life.
(20) Life functions within a Be-Do-Have paradigm. Most people have this backward, imagining that first one must “have” things in order to “do” things, thus to “be” what they wish to be. Reversing this process is the fastest way to experience mastery in living.
(21) There are Three Levels of Awareness: Hope, Faith, and Knowing. Spiritual mastery is about living from the third level.
(22) There are Five Fallacies about God that create crisis, violence, killing and war. First, the idea that God needs something. Second, the idea that God can fail to get what He needs. Third, the idea that God has separated you from Him because you have not given Him what He needs. Fourth, the idea that God still needs what He needs so badly that God now requires you, from your separated position, to give it to Him. Fifth, the idea that God will destroy you if you do not meet His requirements.
(23) There are also Five Fallacies About Life that likewise create crisis, violence, killing and war. First, the idea that human beings are separate from each other. Second, the idea that there is not enough of what human beings need to be happy. Third, the idea that in order to get the stuff of which there is not enough, human beings must compete with each other. Fourth, the idea that some human beings are better than other human beings. Fifth, the idea that it is appropriate for human beings to resolve severe differences created by all the other fallacies by killing each other.
(24) You think you are being terrorized by other people, but in truth you are being terrorized by your beliefs. Your experience of yourself and your world will shift dramatically if you adopt, collectively, the Five Steps to Peace:
Permit yourself to acknowledge that some of your old beliefs about God and about Life are no longer working.
Explore the possibility that there is something you do not fully understand about God and about Life, the understanding of which would change everything.
Announce that you are willing for new understandings of God and Life to now be brought forth, understandings that could produce a new way of life on this planet.
Courageously examine these new understandings and, if they align with your personal inner truth and knowing, enlarge your belief system to include them.
Express your life as a demonstration of your highest beliefs, rather than as a denial of them.
(25) Let there be a New Gospel for all the people of Earth: “We are all one. Ours is not a better way, ours is merely another way.”
The 1,000 words here, embraced and acted on, could change your world in a single generation.

FEAR or LOVE

na inspire ako sa aking nabasa ngayon mula sa paborito kung author kaya isishare ko din dito ;) nabasa ko na ang buong libro pero maganda na maremind paminsan minsan.  happy reading! ☼

A time to consider: Fear or Love — which shall it be?

GOD: If you believe that God is some omnipotent being who hears all prayers, says “yes” to some, “no” to others, and “maybe, but not now” to the rest, you are mistaken. By what rule of thumb would God decide?
If you believe that God is the creator and decider of all things in your life, you are mistaken.
God is the observer, not the creator. And God stands ready to assist you in living your life, but not in the way you might expect.
It is not God’s function to create, or uncreate, the circumstances or conditions of your life. God created you, in the image and likeness of God. You have created the rest, through the power God has given you. God created the process of life and life itself as you know it. Yet God gave you free choice, to do with life as you will.
In this sense, your will for you is God’s will for you.
You are living your life the way you are living your life, and I have no preference in the matter.
This is the grand illusion in which you have engaged: that God cares one way or the other what you do.
I do not care what you do, and that is hard for you to hear. Yet do you care what your children do when you send them out to play? Is it a matter of consequence to you whether they play tag, or hide and seek, or pretend? No, it is not, because you know they are perfectly safe. You have placed them in an environment which you consider friendly and very okay.
Of course, you will always hope that they do not hurt themselves. And if they do, you will be right there to help them, heal them, allow them to feel safe again, to be happy again, to go and play again another day. But whether they choose hide and seek or pretend will not matter to you the next day, either.
You will tell them, of course, which games are dangerous to play. But you cannot stop your children from doing dangerous things. Not always. Not forever. Not in every moment from now until death. It is the wise parent who knows this. Yet the parent never stops caring about the outcome. It is this dichotomy—not caring deeply about the process, but caring deeply about the result—that comes close to describing the dichotomy of God.
Yet God, in a sense, does not even care about the outcome. Not the ultimate outcome. This is because the ultimate outcome is assured.
And this is the second great illusion of man: that the outcome of life is in doubt.
It is this doubt about ultimate outcome that has created your greatest enemy, which is fear. For if you doubt outcome, then you must doubt Creator—you must doubt God. And if you doubt God, you must live in fear and guilt all your life.
If you doubt God’s intentions—and God’s ability to produce this ultimate result—then how can you ever relax? How can you ever truly find peace?
Yet God has full power to match intentions with results. You cannot and will not believe in this (even though you claim that God is all-powerful), and so you have to create in your imagination a power equal to God, in order that you may find a way for God’s will to be thwarted. And so you have created in your mythology the being you call “devil.” You have even imagined a God at war with this being (thinking that God solves problems the way you do). Finally, you have actually imagined that God could lose this war.
All of this violates everything you say you know about God, but this doesn’t matter. You live your illusion, and thus feel your fear, all out of your decision to doubt God.
But what if you made a new decision? What then would be the result?
I tell you this: you would live as the Buddha did. As Jesus did. As did every saint you have ever idolized.
Yet, as with most of those saints, people would not understand you. And when you tried to explain your sense of peace, your joy in life, your inner ecstasy, they would listen to your words, but not hear them. They would try to repeat your words, but would add to them.
They would wonder how you could have what they cannot find. And then they would grow jealous. Soon jealousy would turn to rage, and in their anger they would try to convince you that it is you who do not understand God.
And if they were unsuccessful at tearing you from your joy, they would seek to harm you, so enormous would be their rage. And when you told them it does not matter, that even death cannot interrupt your joy, nor change your truth, they would surely kill you. Then, when they saw the peace with which you accepted death, they would call you saint, and love you again.
For it is the nature of people to love, then destroy, then love again that which they value most.
But why? Why do we do that?
All human actions are motivated at their deepest level by one of two emotions—fear or love. In truth there are only two emotions—only two words in the language of the soul. These are the opposite ends of the great polarity which I created when I produced the universe, and your world, as you know it today.
These are the two points—the Alpha and the Omega—which allow the system you call “relativity” to be. Without these two points, without these two ideas about things, no other idea could exist.
Every human thought, and every human action, is based in either love or fear. There is no other human motivation, and all other ideas are but derivatives of these two. They are simply different versions—different twists on the same theme.
Think on this deeply and you will see that it is true. This is what I have called the Sponsoring Thought. It is either a thought of love, or fear. This is the thought behind the thought behind the thought. It is the first thought. It is prime force. It is the raw energy that drives the engine of human experience.
And here is how human behavior produces repeat experience after repeat experience; it is why humans love, then destroy, then love again: always there is the swing from one emotion to the other. Love sponsors fear sponsors love sponsors fear. . .
. . .And the reason is found in the first lie—the lie which you hold as the truth about God—that God cannot be trusted; that God’s love cannot be depended upon; that God’s acceptance of you is conditional; that the ultimate outcome is thus in doubt. For if you cannot depend on God’s love to always be there, on whose love can you depend? If God retreats and withdraws when you do not perform properly, will not mere mortals also?
. . .And so it is that in the moment you pledge your highest love, you greet your greatest fear.
For the first thing you worry about after saying “I love you” is whether you’ll hear it back. And if you hear it back, then you begin immediately to worry that the love you have just found, you will lose. And so all action becomes a reaction—defense against loss—even as you seek to defend yourself against the loss of God.
Yet if you knew Who You Are—that you are the most magnificent, the most remarkable, the most splendid being God has ever created—you would never fear. For who could reject such wondrous magnificence? Not even God could find fault in such a being.
But you do not know Who You Are, and you think you are a great deal less. And where did you get the idea of how much less than magnificent you are? From the only people whose word you would take on everythingFrom your mother and your father.
These are the people who love you the most. Why would they lie to you? Yet have they not told you that you are too much of this, and not enough of that? Have they not reminded you that you are to be seen and not heard? Have they not scolded you in some of the moments of your greatest exuberance? And, did they not encourage you to set aside some of your wildest imagining?
These are the messages you’ve received, and though they do not meet the criteria, and are thus not messages from God, they might as well have been, for they have come from the gods of your universe surely enough.
It was your parents who taught you that love is conditional—you have felt their conditions many times—and that is the experience you take into your own love relationships.
It is also the experience you bring to Me.
From this experience you draw your conclusions about Me. Within this framework you speak your truth. “God is a loving God,” you say, “but if you break His commandments, He will punish you with eternal banishment and everlasting damnation.”
For have you not experienced the banishment of your own parents? Do you not know the pain of their damnation? How, then, could you imagine it to be any different with Me?
You have forgotten what it was like to be loved without condition. You do not remember the experience of the love of God. And so you try to imagine what God’s love must be like, based on what you see of love in the world.
You have projected the role of “parent” onto God, and have thus come up with a God Who judges and rewards or punishes, based on how good He feels about what you’ve been up to. But this is a simplistic view of God, based on your mythology. It has nothing to do with Who I Am.
Having thus created an entire thought system about God based on human experience rather than spiritual truths, you then create an entire reality around love. It is a fear-based reality, rooted in the idea of a fearful, vengeful God. Its Sponsoring Thought is wrong, but to deny that thought would be to disrupt your whole theology. And though the new theology which would replace it would trulybe your salvation, you cannot accept it, because the idea of a God Who is not to be feared, Who will not judge, and Who has no cause to punish is simply too magnificent to be embraced within even your grandest notion of Who and What God is.
This fear-based love reality dominates your experience of love; indeed, actually creates it. For not only do you see yourself receiving love which is conditional, you also watch yourself giving it in the same way. And even while you withhold and retreat and set your conditions, a part of you knows this is not what love really is. Still, you seem powerless to change the way you dispense it. You’ve learned the hard way, you tell yourself, and you’ll be damned if you’re going to leave yourself vulnerable again. Yet the truth is, you’ll be damned if you don’t.
[By your own (mistaken) thoughts about love do you damn yourself never to experience it purely. So, too, do you damn yourself never to know Me as I really am. Until you do. For you shall not be able to deny Me forever, and the moment will come for our Reconciliation.]
Every action taken by human beings is based in love or fear, not simply those dealing with relationships. Decisions affecting business, industry, politics, religion, the education of your young, the social agenda of your nations, the economic goals of your society, choices involving war, peace, attack, defense, aggression, submission; determinations to covet or give away, to save or to share, to unite or to divide—every single free choice you ever undertake arises out of one of the only two possible thoughts there are: a thought of love or a thought of fear.
Fear is the energy which contracts, closes down, draws in, runs, hides, hoards, harms.
Love is the energy which expands, opens up, sends out, stays, reveals, shares, heals.
Fear wraps our bodies in clothing, love allows us to stand naked. Fear clings to and clutches all that we have, love gives all that we have away. Fear holds close, love holds dear. Fear grasps, love lets go. Fear rankles, love soothes. Fear attacks, love amends.
Every human thought, word, or deed is based in one emotion or the other. You have no choice about this, because there is nothing else from which to choose. But you have free choice about which of these to select…
…You have been taught to live in fear. You have been told about the survival of the fittest and the victory of the strongest and the success of the cleverest. Precious little is said about the glory of the most loving. And so you strive to be the fittest, the strongest, the cleverest—in one way or another—and if you see yourself as something less than this in any situation, you fear loss, for you have been told that to be less is to lose.
And so of course you choose the action fear sponsors, for that is what you have been taught. Yet I teach you this: when you choose the action love sponsors, then will you do more than survive, then will you do more than win, then will you do more than succeed. Then will you experience the full glory of Who You Really Are, and who you can be.
To do this you must turn aside the teachings of your well-meaning, but misinformed, worldly tutors, and hear the teachings of those whose wisdom comes from another source.
