CT Scan with Contrast

  2. Doctors Hospital Bacolod - 10k (may senior citizen discount pa) at 16 slices din

Defining a 'woman'

Sarah Kay, known for spoken word poetry, wrote a beautiful piece about women. Her poem, “The Type”, gave new insights on how women should see themselves.
She wrote in Huffington Post: “Media attention has been paid to what it means to 'be a woman,' but often the conversation focuses on what it means to be a woman in relation to others...I believe these relationships are important. I also think it is possible to define ourselves solely as individuals, without comparisons or relationships.”
True enough, women are often defined and valued based on their relationships. This explains why we use labels such as ‘good wife,’ ‘mistress,’ ‘other woman.’ For every stage in a woman's life, her identity is always associated with her relationships.
When a woman reaches her mid 20s, people wonder why she does not have a boyfriend. When a woman is at her 40s, people think she is missing a large chunk of her life if she is not married. When a woman is married, people expect her to have children.
Ask a beauty queen, a husband, and a wife on what the essence of being a woman is and most of them will surely answer: “It is childbearing or child-rearing.”
But how about a woman who cannot bear a child or a woman who remains single by choice or by act of nature?
Society’s definition
I have high regard for women who strive to be the best daughter, best girlfriend, best wife, and best mother. All these roles should be part of our aspiration in life. Our relationships shape our lives and build our character but there is something more than what a relationship offers. Yet, culture tells us that it should define us.
Society dictates how women should naturally maintain relationships. Hence, when a relationship fails, a woman needs to justify herself. When a married woman is caught having an affair with another man, she is immediately guilty of adultery.
But when a married man is caught having an affair with another woman, he is not yet guilty of any extramarital crime. Philippine law states that he is only guilty of concubinage if his affair is under scandalous circumstances.
I told my friend: “So what do we do then? Should we protest? Protest that we can also have extramarital affair and not have an automatic crime of adultery like men do, unless we do something scandalous?”
Defining the word ‘woman’
But how do you define a woman? Is it by length of time she spent on the bathroom? If she knows how to use an eyeliner, then maybe she can call herself a ‘real’ woman?
Two men told me that I should know how to apply makeup. It's an unexpected irony to think that girls are more open about grooming and style. My inner self tells me that I shouldn't groom myself because I am only pleasing the eyes of men. And when I aim to please the eyes of men, I allow my relationship with others to define me.
I allow culture to define me. I allow society to define me. That for me is a form of oppression.
We all have a shared picture of an ideal woman while we don't have a concrete picture of what an ideal man should be. Yes, he should be a provider but we can disagree that he does not have to know how to drive, how to fix electric wires, how to repair a faucet, and how to play basketball. He can be tough yet he can be soft spoken.
Not a ‘woman’
I'm afraid I am mistakenly placed in a woman's body. Apparently, I don't cook and I'm not domesticated. I am not caring and I don't think I'm sweet. I honestly feel I am less of a woman. But I'm hoping someday I will raise my own family and epitomize a conventional woman.
At the same time, it is within my understanding that life has many possibilities. I'm afraid to disappoint but I'm more afraid of losing myself in the course of finding and keeping people who can make me happy.
As written by Sarah Kay: “Let the statues crumble. You have always been the place. You are a woman who can build it yourself. You were born to build.”
A woman can navigate her life with her own ambitions and talents. She is not a set of hormones and norms. She has individual traits. She is capable of finding her own happiness and building her success. She has many stories and many thoughts which should be magnified and adored.
There’s more to a woman’s life than finding the man of her dreams, bearing a child, and being the best lover or homemaker. Let us set aside prejudice for women who failed in fulfilling their traditional roles and look at the other parts of her life.
Relationships are pieces of who we are but they do not speak of our entire value. - Rappler.com

How to Budget your Income

i recently downloaded an app called DEM (Daily Expense Manager) in my xperia phone and i'm so religiously updating it everytime i take away money.  It's so nice because it is in pesos and can have lots of categories.  I can easily see which one had the most expense and if i'm going beyond my budget.  When you only have enough to last you until the next payday, better take in charge in how you spend your hard-earned money. ;)  Then i got this in my mailbox a few days back and reminded to continue with what i'm doing.  Happy investing and saving! ☼

If you’ve been living from paycheck to paycheck, deep in debt and without a clear financial future – then I suggest you make yourself a grumpy saver now before you turn into a financial disaster in the future.

I hope these simple steps on creating a zero-based budget can help.

ZERO-BASED BUDGET PLANNING SYSTEM
1. Account all your income sources in a month. This is simple if you’re an employee. For entrepreneurs and freelancers, simply take the average of your monthly income for the past 3 to 4 months.

2. Track down all your monthly expenses – include everything – then categorize them into three types:
  • Fixed expenses such as rent, mortgage payments, etc.
  • Semi-fixed expenses such as electricity and other utility bills which fluctuate very little every month
  • Variable expenses such as entertainment spendings and other regular expenses whose amount varies each month
3. Assign the exact amount from your income to fixed expenses first. Next, allocate part of your income to your semi-fixed expenses (try using the highest amount from the past three months). And lastly, budget what’s left of your income to your variable expenses.

4. The key here and what your main focus should be is to make sure that all your monthly expenses are covered by your income.

5. What if my income is not enough to cover all the expenses?
6. What if my income is more than enough to cover all the expenses?
  • First, congratulate yourself because you’re actually living below your means.
  • Then, assign the extra money you have to ‘Savings’ or ‘Investment Budget’
  • Lastly, allocate some of it to ‘Luxury Expenses’ (you deserve the reward)
7. Adjust your budget until all your money has been “spent on paper”. Don’t stop until every cent has been assigned – which means your ‘Income’ less your ‘Expenses’ is equal to ‘Zero’ (thus the name of the system).

8. Review your budget status and progress once a week. Constantly work on how you can improve your system until it becomes a habit.

And that’s it – that’s how you do a zero-based budget planning system. It will be difficult at first but it gets easier as months go by, trust me.

Again, the important thing to remember, whether you’re doing the Envelope System, the Zero-Based Budget Planning System, or a combination of both – is to have a healthy mindset about what you’re doing.

Let go of envy and self-pity and have an optimistic attitude – know that someday, with enough patience and persistence, you will become smarter with how you handle your money, you’ll live without financial worries and of course, be happier than you are today.

How to Earn Passive Income

Now here's one i found in my facebook timeline today that i can't resist sharing agad-agad ;)  Sa lahat ng naghahanap ng trabaho, may trabaho, o magkakatrabaho. ;)

Henry Hungry is applying for a job.

He walks into this nice office and meets a well-dressed fellow behind the desk. Henry smiles and asks him, "Sir, is there a job for me?"

The Man Says, "I'm actually looking for a general manager. you need to sign a conract for three years. Interested?
"Hmmm. Sorry for being upfront, but how much will I earn?" Henry Hungry asks.

The man says. "I'll let you choose your salary.

OPTION 1: is I pay you P30,000 a month for 36 months.
OPTION 2: is I pay you one centavo on the first month and I double it every month for 36 months."

Henry starts calculating. "Option 2 is interesting. If I choose that, I earn one centavo on the first month, two cents on the second month, four cents on the third month, 8 cents, on the fourth month, 16 cents on the fifth month, 32 cents on the sixth month... after 12 months of working with you, I would have received a total of... sheesh, P23!Sir, I need the money badly. I choose Option 1 where I earn P30,000 flat each month. By the first year, i'd already have earned P360,000. And after three years, that would a total to P1 million. I definitely choose Option 1".

"Okay, if that's what you want." Then the man asks, by the way, if you choose option 2, do you know how much you'll earn by the end of three years?"

"I didn't finishing computing that option. It's too depressing."

The man Calculates in front of Henry hungry. "On the first month, you receive on centavo, on the second month, you receive two centavos..." He goes on and on, and Henry doesn't mind him too much.He's focused on the P1 million he'll be earning in three years. He feels pretty good about himself.

Finally, the man looks up and shows Henry Hungry the calculator. "In 36 months, you would have earned P680 million. You exchanged that for one million. I'm sorry, my friend, I can't take you as my General Manager. Your decision making skills are terrible."

Let me give you the figures...(see picture below/above )

There are only two types of income in this world: Linear(Active) and Exponential (Passive)

Linear Income is like a piece of bread. You eat and its gone. After that, you have to look for another piece of bread.

Exponential income is like a seed. You can't eat it at first, but if you plant it and whait for a while, you can eat as much as you want to.You have an infinite source of fruit if you keep on planting some of the seeds.

Many Filipinos today have only one income stream - their jobs - and jobs are linear income.

What is exponential income?

That's what a regular employee earns when he invests in mutual funds and stocks. (So you see everyone can earn exponential income, even employees).

That's what a NETWORKER earns when he/she builds a downline organization.

That's what a store owner earn when he/she branches out, hires other store managers, or sells franchises of her store.

That's what a distributor earns when he distributes his goods to various stores.

That's what a real state investor earns when she buys profitable rental property.

Exponential income - also called passive income - means earning for a very longtime from work you did only once at the very start.

Hey, income is income. Earn linear income when you can!But invest your linear income so you can earn exponential income.

Because if you want to be wealhty, you need to find a way to earn exponential income.

(un)Consciousness

 i have read this over and over again and from Byron Katie too of loving what is and ako naman basta may bago shoot agad.  o kaya try out agad.  i would say life lately has been pretty well just by simply changing my perspective in every thing life is presenting me at the very moment.  indeed, when you let your mind the working of past and future, you will forget to savor the present.  when i am so caught up with what will happen tomorrow, i tend to miss the gifts of the things that's happening right under my nose.  we live one day at a time.  we cannot live tomorrow by living it today.  and this line here is sooooo true: "the greater part of any unhappiness in you is created not by situations, but by what your mind is saying about them. It's created by the self-talk in your head."

so you want to be happy? be happy.  stop the self-talking and love the things as they show up not as you see it.  this is what Byron Katie means to love and accept what is  because we cannot change it by arguing with it.  we move on with life changing the way we want things to be and if they're not happening as we deem it to be, love it anyway.  ;) sabi nga nya: what is so is what is so and you cannot argue with it.  hahaahahaha way to go for me to live that consciously in my daily life too but it pays to be re-minded.  mind again.

The philosopher Epictetus(AD55-135) wrote:
"People are not disturbed by things, but by the view they take of things."
If you look closely, you will find that by far the greater part of any unhappiness in you is created not by situations, but by what your mind is saying about them. It's created by the self-talk in your head. Such dysfunctional thinking strengthens the ego, but it weakens you. How to end it? Meet situations and people without judgment. Don't indulge in mental movies about past and future. Give your fullest attention to the present moment without mentally labeling it. This is the arising of Presence, a new state of consciousness that frees your mind from its old conditioning. This new consciousness will give rise to a new world.
With love

How to Save MONEY

Saving money is important. We all know that.  But knowing is not the same as doing.
For some people, saving money is like going on a healthy diet.  You get inspired and start to do it, but after a few weeks, self-pity creeps in and you begin hating it.

If you usually fail at saving money or you think it’s really difficult to do, then here are some money saving tips that could help you.

1) Save first, then spend the rest.
At the instant you receive your income, immediately set aside a portion and put it in your savings account. After that, you can now spend the rest of your salary without guilt. This is what they call paying yourself first, which is easier and more fun to do than scrimping on your expenses so you’ll have money left as your savings until the next pay day comes. Try it, this really works.

2) Make saving money automatic.
How do you make saving automatic? There are several ways. One is to go to the bank that handles your company payroll account and ask if they have an automatic savings plan or if you can have one arranged. What this means is that whenever pay day comes, the bank will automatically deduct a fixed amount from your salary and deposit it to a separate savings account.

3) Make your savings NOT easily accessible.
When your savings account is just one ATM withdrawal away, then you’re more likely to touch it.  Make it inconvenient for you to get cash out of your savings.  Simply having a pure passbook bank account is a good start.  As for me, I have a BDO Optimum Personal Savings Account which only allows you up to three over-the-counter cash withdrawals a month (but unlimited deposit transactions).

The Filipino Paluwagan System provides a similar inaccessibility to your savings.  In fact, many Pinoys have recently started and joined paluwagans to “force” them to save money in light of the recent global financial crisis.
money saving tips Money Saving Tips For People Who Hate Saving Money

4) Always use cash.
When you always use cash, you’ll be more aware of your budget.  This will help you avoid accumulating debts and encourage you to live within your means.  Simply put, pay yourself first then always use cash.  Do this and you’ll end up with no credit and a savings account that you don’t have to touch to pay your debts.

5) Set a benchmark and a reward for saving money.
They say that you should save money for the “rainy days”.  Personally, I believe that’s a pessimistic (and vague) reason to encourage yourself into saving.  I find myself more motivated into saving money when I set a reward for myself whenever I reach a certain amount.

For example, I allow myself to guiltlessly splurge P2,000 on anything I want whenever I am able to increase my savings by P10,000.  Other times, I reward myself with a fancy dinner in a restaurant after every three No Spending Days.

To those airline passengers who have missed meetings and appointments because of hours of delays, to those who have lost their luggage without either compensation or even a sincere apology from airline companies, and to those who were lured by “cheap” fares only to discover excessive hidden fees and charges, here’s an early Christmas gift for you.

The “Airline Passengers’ Bills of Rights” took effect December 21, 2012. Also known as Joint Administrative Order (JAO) No. 1 by the Department of Tourism and the Department of Transportation and Communication, this bill of rights gives air travelers well-defined rights and avenues to air their grievances against abusive airline companies with proper redress.
This bill of rights is no doubt a good step towards giving travelers better and well-deserved customer service that have been sorely lacking in industry in the past years. It doesn’t end here, though. Strict implementation of the rules and existence of convenient avenues to file complaints against erring airline companies should pave the way for a much-better airline industry in the country.
Here is a summary of the salient points of the Airline Passengers’ Bill of Rights. Read, be informed, and exercise your rights as an air traveler.
Right to compensation and amenities in case of Flight Delays
a. In case of Terminal Delay (defined as “a flight delay that occurs while passengers are still inside the terminal waiting to board”) of at least three (3) hours after the expected time of departure (ETD) regardless of reason for delay, a passenger shall have right to:
  • be provided with refreshments or meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks, as the case may be);
  • be provided with free phone calls, texts, or emails, and first aid, if necessary; and
  • rebook or refund ticket subject to conditions outlined in the Bill of Rights
b. In case of Terminal Delay extending for at least six (6) hours after the ETD for causes attributable to the carrier, the flight is deemed “cancelled” for the purpose of making available to the passenger rights and amenities required to be provided in case of actual cancellation (see below).

Right to compensation and amenities in case of Cancelled Flights
a. In case of flight cancellation attributable to the airline, the passenger is entitled to:
  • be notified beforehand via public announcement or published notice;
  • be provided with the following, if he/she is already at the airport at the time of the announcement of the flight cancellation: sufficient refreshments or meals (e.g. snacks consisting of at least  a bottle of water and a sandwich, or breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or a voucher for the same, as the case may be); hotel accommodation (conveniently accessible from the airport); transportation from the airport to the hotel and vice-versa; free phone calls, text or emails, and first aid, if necessary;
  • reimbursement of the value of the fare, including taxes and surcharges, of the flight cancelled, or both in case the passenger decides not to fly;
  • be endorsed to another air carrier without paying any fare difference, at the option of the passenger, and provided that space permit such re-accommodation; or
  • rebook the ticket, without additional charge, to the next flight with available space, or, within 30 days, to a future trip within the period of validity of the ticket.  However, for rebooking made over 30 days, fees and fare difference will apply.
b. In case the airline decides to cancel a flight at least 24 hours before departure, it will not be liable for any amenities except to notify the passenger, and to rebook or reimburse the passenger.

Right to Clear and Non-Misleading Promos and Advertisements
a. All fare advertisements must disclose the following:
  • Conditions and restrictions attached to the fare type;
  • Refund and rebooking policies, if any;
  • Baggage allowance policies;
  • Government taxes and fuel surcharges;
  • Other mandatory fees and charges;
  • Contact details of the carrier (i.e. phone number, website, e-mail, etc.); and
  • Other information necessary to apprise the passenger of the conditions and the full/total price of the ticket purchased
b. For promo fares such as “Piso fares” or other “cheap flight promos,” the following information must also be announced:
  • Number of seats offered on a per sector basis;
  • Duration of the promo; and
  • The CAB Approval No. of Fares
c. These disclosures must occupy at least one-third (1/3) of the advertising material and must also be printed or attached to the ticket.

Right to Compensation for Lost, Delayed, or Damaged Baggage
a. In case a checked-in baggage has been off-loaded for operational, safety or security reasons, the passenger must be informed at the soonest practicable time. The baggage must be carried in the next flight with available space and must be delivered to the passenger personally or at his/her residence.
b. The passenger must be paid P2,000 for every 24 hours their baggage is missing. After 7 days, the baggage would be deemed lost.
c. For lost or damaged baggage, the compensation will be in the following manner:
  • For international flights, the relevant conventions shall apply;
  • For domestic flights, upon proof, a maximum amount in Peso equivalent to half of the amount in the relevant convention (for international flights).
Right to Immediate Payment of Compensation
Compensation to affected passengers shall be made at the airline counters at the airport on the date when the occasion occurred entitling the passenger to compensation. Alternatively, it may be done at the airline’s main office or any of their branches, at the discretion of the passenger.

One out of every three Filipinos aged between six and 24 has never been to school or has dropped out of the education system, according to a government survey.

Some 11.6 million Filipinos, or 34% of the country's 6 to 24 year-olds, quit school prematurely or never received any formal education.

One in five of these "stated that they cannot afford the high cost of education," the National Statistics Office 2003 survey found.

Enrolment levels were lowest in the poverty-stricken Muslim region of the south, where only about half of children and youth are in school or college.

18% children are not enrolled in primary school, a figure that rises to 40% for secondary school and 66% at college level.

The survey also found that one in 10 Filipinos aged between 10 and 64 cannot read or write at all. Females have a higher literacy rate of 90.4 percent compared to males at 86.8 percent.

Two in 10 Filipinos are "functionally illiterate", or lack numerical skills and cannot perform addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.

Functional illiteracy is worst among the Filipino poor, where three in 10 cannot compute or lack numerical skills.

The Manila-based Asian Development Bank estimates that 41.7 percent of the Philippine population live on two dollars a day

Ako'y isang mabuting Pilipino

i was there!!! ;_) i'm sure years from now i would be so proud to recall and share that i was part of the historic inauguration yesterday. cheers to the new president, cheers to the new Philippines, cheers to pagbabago! maraming agam-agam at lahat ay nagbabantay kung ito na nga ba ang hinihintay ng lahat na pagbabago.

Pumipila at ‘di nakikipag-unahan
[chorus]
‘pagkat ako’y isang mabuting Pilipino
Minamahal ko ang bayan ko
Tinutupad ko ang aking mga tungkulin
Sinusunod ko ang kanyang mga alituntunin
‘Di ako nagongotong o nagbibigay ng lagay
Ticket lamang ang tinatanggap kong ibinibigay
Ako’y nakatayo doon mismo sa kanto
At ‘di nagtatago sa ilalim ng puno
‘Di ako nagkakalat ng basura sa lansangan
‘Di bumubuga ng usok ang aking sasakyan
Inaayos ko ang mga kalat sa basurahan
Inaalagaan ko ang ating kapaligiran
[repeat chorus]
Lagi akong nakikinig sa aking mga magulang
Kaya’t pag-aaral ay aking pinagbubutihan
‘di ako gumagamit ng bawal na gamot
O kaya’y tumatambay at sa eskwela’y ‘di pumapasok
Ipinagtatanggol ko ang aking karangalan
‘pagkat ito lamang ang tangi kong kayamanan
‘di ko ibinebenta ang aking kinabukasan
Ang boto ko’y aking pinahahalagahan
[repeat chorus]
Ako’y isang tapat at totoong lingkod ng bayan
Pabor o lagay ay ‘di ko pinapayagan
Tapat ang serbisyo ko sa mamamayan
‘Di ko ibinubulsa ang pera ng bayan
Ipinagtatanggol ko ang mamamayang Pilipino
Mga karapatan nila’y kinikilala ko
Iginagalang ko ang aking kapwa tao
Ipinaglalaban ko ang dangal ng bayan ko.
[repeat chorus twice]
Pagkat ako’y isang mabuting Pilipino
Pagkat ako’y isang mabuting Pilipino
Pagkat ako’y isang mabuting Pilipino
